Middle School

Middle School Introduction

The BWYA middle school, is an excellent place for students to start their secondary school learning experience, as they develop into principled, open-minded thinkers and responsible individuals, who are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in life. To this end, the school offers a wide range of learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom.

森林大舞会Learning in the classroom, focuses on students making enquiries into local and global issues to develop a solid understanding of key concepts, and higher-order thinking skills. As such, instructions and assessments are delivered with students making investigations through research, group work, projects and field trips, evaluating different ideas and perspectives, and presenting their own understanding and solutions.

Outside of the classroom, our learners are exposed to an even greater variety of learning opportunities. The Clubs Programme helps students cultivate an interest or a hobby, like the technological challenges of the robotics club, or developing a real passion for arts in the a cappella club, or engaging in dealing with global issues with the Model United Nation Club.

Similarly, the Athletics Programme engages our students in competitive sports, developing team spirit and character amongst our players. The Classroom Without Walls Programme see our learners going to different destinations both domestic and international to explore the world for experiential learning. In addition, our learners all actively engage themselves in SA and CAS activities and projects; these SA and CAS actions help our learners develop into caring and responsible people.

Chinese Culture Studies Programme

森林大舞会Another learning experience, which greatly contributes to our student development particularly with regard to language and culture awareness, is the Chinese Culture Studies Programme. In addition to learning one’s mother tongue throughout the MYP and DP Programmes, the Grades 6-8 students also have the chance to take courses such as Chinese calligraphy, Chinese History, Chinese Moral Studies and the Intangible Culture Heritage course. These classes aim to cultivate not only a real appreciation of the culture and history of the hosting country, but more importantly, they serve as a way for students to compare different cultural perspectives so as to develop a much deeper cross-cultural understanding in their studies.

Debate Spirit at BWYA

森林大舞会On Saturday 7th December, seven international schools’ speech and debate teams gathered at BWYA to speak, perform, and debate against each other. The competition was fierce; each round of performances was stronger and more brilliant than the last. But in the end, BWYA prevailed – our middle school and high school teams both won first place overall in the team divisions.  Previous Next This being now the 6th year of Speecheasy, was perhaps the best event for BWYA so far, with our students winning the most awards we have ever won. With nearly 100 students taking part, we would in particular like to thank

21st Century Problem Solvers

森林大舞会Half a century ago, American writer Eldridge Cleaver famously stated, “You either have to be part of the solution, or you’re going to be part of the problem.” So we must ask ourselves, on the international-educational road, facing all the challenges of the future, how are we equipping our children to be solution-finding problem solvers? This simple question was responded to at the recent ‘City Shaper Project Exhibition’ organised by BWYA.  18 teams from Grades 8 and 9 took part in the week-long exercise, as countless present-day design conundrums were discussion, debated, and developed, bringing fresh ideas to the forefront. How do we optimise use
